A large life-size oil portrait of my beautiful sister, Antonia Davies, which I completed at Easter this year. It is quite large at 50 x 50 inches, with the figure being life-size.
This was painted at our mother’s house in Somerset. A vase of pink David Austin roses, a favourite of our mother, to her right symbolise her love of the garden, and if you look closely you can see our mother busy weeding in the garden…
Although her face is largely in shadow, set against the light of the window, her beauty, warmth and humour shine out.

Such a beautiful portrait and very much as I remember Antonia as a 17 year old when we studied for our A Levels together at Strode College!
Yesterday, with my younger sister, I visited Lytes Cary Manor. She has an amazing memory and reminded me that Antonia used to live there. When we enquired of a longstanding volunteer, she drew our attention to the plaque in your parents’ memory!
