These were commissioned by their grandparents unbeknownst to their unsuspecting parents. It was all wonderfully cloak and dagger. The children were taken on a mystery break down in Somerset and knew nothing of the plan until the morning of the sitting.
Their grandparents had supplied me with a very good and detailed description of these very unusual, and very clever girls. As daughters of diplomats they have had a very exciting and well-travelled life, having lived in Sri Lanka, Brazil and Paris.
As with most sisters, these two were so different in nature. Cordelia is a shy, clever bookworm. There is something gentle and utterly compelling about her.
Cecily is outgoing, fun, sassy and extremely confident in front of the camera. This is a girl who knows where she is going. And she will take no prisoners!
But both girls are animal obsessed and were instantly smitten by my two terriers who were certainly playing to the audience.
Here are the finished portraits together. From what I gather, their parents were surprised and delighted!
